Romania was beaten mercilessly by the impressive Holland in an unforgettable manner.

The Netherlands had been under pressure heading into this game all because of how Austria made them look so ordinary in the 3-2 defeat.

Ronald Koeman’s decision to start Steven Bergwijn on the right hand side of Dutch’s sttack paid off as the winger stretched the Romanians left hand side.

With the exciting Cody Gakpo on the left hand side of the attack, Romania’s lateral defenders will never forget how Malen and Gakpo dismantled them.

Liverpool forward Gakpo scored the first goal of the game after striking the ball superbly to the right hand side of Nita.

Netherlands continued their impressive form by creating so many chances but failed to captalise on it.

Steven Bergwijn was replaced by the lively Donyel Malin in the 46th minute. The substitute made life more difficult for the poor Romanians as his link up with Depay, Simons and Gakpo was so sensational.

He scored twice in the 83rd and 93rd minutes to finish Romania in a grand manner.

This is the performance every Dutch fan has dreamed of as it was full of pace, composure, swagger and elegance.

The Netherlands will fancy their chance if they can play like this in the quarter-finals.
