A proper transitional plan is what has made some countries always win trophies from the youth to the senior level.
The current generation will still be on top of their game yet they will have a replacement for them. Transition is an important element for winning in football and it is one of the things Ghana has failed to address recently.
Ghana used to be either the first or second in terms of proper transition as players were smoothly promoted from the U17s to the U20s and to the U23s. They used to give all levels serious trouble in football, but it has suddenly changed.
Discussing the major issue hindering the progress of the Black Stars, the former midfielder bemoaned the lack of proper continuity at the various national teams.
“If you recall back our time, Sellas Tetteh went with Sadiq Adams, Ransford Osei, and all those guys. They came and promoted five of them. They met me, Samuel Inkoom and Others. Then we took the U20 to the World Cup and won it. When we came back, they selected seven of us for the 2010 AFCON, he said.
Agyeman Badu perfectly understands the importance of transition in football and used how the 2009 U20 World Cup sinning squad was integrated smoothly into the Black Star during the 2010 AFCON.
“When we reached the finals, we were beaten by Egypt. The big names were gradually going out and we took control of the national team. From there, the U20 have not been doing well. The U17 has not been doing well, so you’re not getting the transition like our time,” Badu added.
Ghana’s U17 and U20 have failed to dazzle on the world stage for quite a long time, and it is time the authorities make sure that they return to their former glory.
