Nottingham Forest have sacked Angelos Postecoglou just 39 days into his tenure as the manager of the club, following a string of poor results and a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

It was clear that Postecoglou’s days were numbered, looking at the performances from his side.

His brief spell as Nottingham Forest manager came to an abrupt end on Saturday when the club announced his dismissal just minutes after their 3-0 disastrous home loss to Chelsea.

The Australian coach had only been appointed on September 9, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, but failed to win any of his eight matches in charge.

Forest’s statement cited “a series of disappointing results and performances” as the reason for his departure.

The decision appeared to be brewing during the Chelsea match itself, as Forest Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis was seen leaving his seat while the team trailed 2-0.

Postecoglou’s record stood at six defeats and two draws, a stark contrast to his previous success at Celtic and Tottenham.

Despite his optimistic remarks in the pre-match press conference—where he claimed that time at any club usually ends “with me and a trophy”—the lack of immediate impact proved costly.

Postecoglou’s final moments at the City Ground were marked by a quiet gesture of appreciation, as he stayed on the pitch to applaud the fans who remained.

It was a classy farewell from a manager who had hoped to build something meaningful but was undone by the unforgiving pace of Premier League expectations.

His sacking makes Forest’s managerial merry-go-round even more turbulent, with the club now searching for their third head coach of the season.

The abrupt dismissal underscores the pressure facing managers in top-flight football, especially at clubs battling poor form and fan unrest.

For Forest, the challenge now is to stabilise their season and find a leader capable of reversing their fortunes.

As for Postecoglou, his brief stint may be remembered more for its timing than its impact, but his reputation remains intact thanks to past achievements and the dignified way he exited the role.

Italian manager Roberto Martinez and former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche are the two managers leading the race for the vacant hot seat
