Romania is a forgotten nation in football now after failing to dazzle at the highest level in world football in the last two decades.

The Tricolors eliminated Argentina in the 1994 FIFA World Cup Round 16 winning many fans across the globe for themselves. In France 98, Romania beat England 2-1 and Colombia 2-0 to top Group G.

In Euro 2000, the Tricolors of Romania drew 2-2 with England leading to the elimination of the Three Lions. They have simply failed to make an impact in any major international competition since then.

They announced themselves to the world football fraternity with a total mauling of Ukraine at the Allianz Arena in Munich in front of 61, 591 spectators.

Their dominance was unbelievable culminating in skipper Nicolae Stanciu smashing an unbelievable goal for the underdogs from outside the eighteen-yard box in the 29th minute. Dennis Man provided an assist for the skipper to open the account for Romania.

The overwhelming favourites Ukraine were very flat after dominating for just a few minutes in the first half.

Earlier in the second half, Razvan Marin quickly got to a rebound and slammed the ball towards the goal to double Romania’s lead. Marin’s strike was magnificent looking at the technique and it made the fans of Tricolors go crazy.

A close-range finish from Denis Dragus made it 3-0 and sealed the tie for Romania in the 57th minute.

It was very catastrophic for Ukraine who boasted of Real Madrid’s Lunin, Zinchenko of Arsenal, Girona’s Dovbyk, Chelsea’s Mudryk and many other talented players who had incredible seasons for their respective clubs.

Romania has shocked everyone as it is a message to the favourites that no one is in Germany to tour Berlin and Munich.
