Nemanja Matic, ahead of Manchester United’s trip to France to Lyon, described Andre Onana as the worst goalkeeper to have ever played for Manchester United. He jabbed the Cameroonian goalkeeper with former legendary Manchester United goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel, Edwin Van der Sar and David De Gea.
Andre Onana had initially revealed that Manchester United is a far better side. This infuriated the former Red Devil midfielder, Nemanja Matic who currently plays for Lyon. He hit back at Onana and their words of war added something spectacular to the game.
The atmosphere at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France was something spectacular. Lyon, earlier in the game, dominated but failed to break down Manchester United. The Breakthrough came when Thiago Almada’s free-kick was fumbled by Onana, and the ball slipped into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead. It was so disastrous for Manchester United because they looked so organised and disciplined.
Leny Yoro headed in Ugarte’s shot on the stroke of halftime to restore parity. The game ended 1-1 in the first half with Onana, the happiest man in Lyon.
Manchester United, with two minutes to end the game, took a commanding lead through substitute Joshua Zirkzee, who headed in Bruno Fernandes’ cross. Many thought Manchester United were going to return home with victory but Lyon came back in the game.
Rayan Cherki fired a rebound to the net after Andre Onana had failed once again to deal with a weak effort. It was the 9th error leading to goal that Onana has committed since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan.
The 2-2 results mean both teams will fancy their chance at Old Trafford next Thursday, with the Red Devils having a high home advantage.
In the other games on the night, 10 men Rangers drew goalless at the Ibrox with Spanish side Atletic Bilbao. The Scottish side got a red card with just 13 minutes played. Rangers deserve huge credit for drawing to stay in contention ahead of the second leg.
Bodo/Glimt, earlier on in Norway, defeated Italian side Lazio 2-0. Ulrik Saltnes’ second-half brace made the difference.
Tottenham Hotspur’s right back Pedro Poro in the 26th minute cancelled Hugo Etikite’s 6th-minute opener for Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The game ended 1-1, with the Germans hoping to eliminate the English side with a massive home advantage.
