2018 champions Japan smashed the Black Princesse of Ghana 4-1 to leave Ghana on the brink of another group stage exit.

It was always going to be a Herculian task for Ghana to triumph against Japan. Japan smashed New Zealand 7-0 in their opening game so they were in full confidence ahead of the game.

It was a huge warning to Yusif Basigi and his girls to prove that they will last long in Bogota.

Ghana had lost 2-0 against Austria in their opening game so it was a must win game for the Black Princesses.

Ghana contained their counterparts for large part of the first half. Many thought it was going to end in a goalless in the first half but Japan incredibly scored in the 45th and 6th minutes into the additional minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Chinari Sasai and Manaka Matsukubo were the scorers for Japan.

With five minutes into the second half, Japan put the game beyond Ghana’s reach by scoring the third through Miku Hayama.

Stella Nyamekye pulled one back for Ghana via penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

Miyu Matsunagu in the 90th minute added the icing on the cake to record an emphatic 4-1 win for Japan.

In the other game of the group, Austria beat New Zealand 3-1 to qualify for the next round alongside Japan.

Japan and Austria each have won 6 points with Ghana and New Zealand having won nothing. Ghana is placed in third position in the group but are last in the best third place table.

Ghana and New Zealand will lock horns in matchday 3 as the winner will stand a very slim chance to progress.
