A journalist with the Class Media Group has reportedly been assaulted by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service while covering the fire incident at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The incident is said to have occurred when the journalist was filming a confrontation between firefighters and some traders at the market in the aftermath of Sunday night’s inferno.

The reporter was attacked while attempting to record an exchange between the fire officers and the traders.

The journalist has further alleged that an amount of over GH₵20,000, which was in his bag at the time, went missing during the assault.

Some residents present at the scene were allegedly assaulted by the said Fire Service personnel during the confrontation.

On Sunday, January 4, a major fire outbreak was recorded at the Kasoa New Market, prompting an emergency response from the Kasoa Fire Station and the Weija Fire Station.
