The boxing world’s attention was on the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana, as DAZN, Matchroom Boxing and Legacy Rise Sports combined to serve the world a Christmas boxing jamboree.

In attendance was Ghana’s President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and most iconic figures in Ghanaian football history, including Asamoah Gyan, Stephen Appiah, Abedi Pele, and Ayew Pele.

Freezy Macbones suffered his first professional defeat in Accra, losing to Jonathan “Worldwide” Tetteh in a dramatic bout at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The fight, staged on Saturday night, was billed as a clash of rising Ghanaian light heavyweights, but it ended with Tetteh claiming the vacant WBA Africa title by unanimous decision.

The opening rounds saw Tetteh take control with sharp jabs and quick combinations that kept Freezy on the defensive.

Despite his reputation for power, Freezy struggled to find his rhythm early on, as Tetteh’s footwork and counter-punching neutralised his attacks.

The crowd, which had gathered in anticipation of fireworks, witnessed Freezy being forced onto the back foot, unable to impose his usual aggressive style.

As the fight progressed, Freezy began to land heavier shots, particularly in the third and fourth rounds, briefly shifting momentum.

However, controversy struck when he was penalised for biting his opponent during a clinch, costing him valuable points.

That incident, combined with Tetteh’s resilience and tactical discipline, tilted the contest further in favour of the undefeated fighter.

Surprisingly, Judges scored the bout 80-73, 78-74, and 77-75, all in Tetteh’s favour.

The defeat marks a significant setback for Freezy Macbones, who had built a reputation as a knockout artist and fan favourite.

For Jonathan Tetteh, the victory cements his status as one of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects, now holding the WBA Africa light heavyweight crown.

The bout, part of Matchroom Boxing’s inaugural event in Africa, showcased the growing appeal of Ghanaian boxing and highlighted the intensity of local rivalries that continue to captivate fans.

Rematch has immediately been discussed by fans, as many believe the judges were not fair to Freezy.
