Ghanaian football can never stay away from hooliganism, as the barbaric act has become part and parcel of the game. The killing of Pooley in Nsoatre was supposed to be the turning of things for domestic football in terms of violence but it did not take long before officials started attacking officials.
In the Access Bank Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, the camera captured players, club administrators and coaching staff in a brawl with many attacking the referee of the game.
At the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina in the Central Region, Rudolf Mensah Junior’s 39th-minute penalty helped Sweduru All Blacks snatch an important three points away from home against Elmina Sharks.
Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Kelvin Aboagye, General Manager of Elmina Sharks and some fans of the club for assaulting the referee. The Ghana Police have also confirmed that they are after some suspects who attacked the referee.
The 1-0 win for Sweduru All Blacks has helped them open a four-point gap on top of the table over second-placed side ROSPAK.
Elmina Sharks, however, sits in 13th place with just a point above the relegation zone, having won 18 points from 17 matches.
