The ‘Title Race’ permutations
The final day of the Ghana Premier League promises to be cagey and entertaining as the battle for the title will be on. The top three are separated by only two points, with leaders and second-placed teams both on 60 points. Second-placed Asante Kotoko has won 58 points.
League leaders, Nations FC, who abandoned their last game at Basake Holy Stars due to poor officiating and threats, will host Heart of Lions at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. A win will, on paper, help Nations lift their first-ever league title in the history of the Ghana Premier League, but it remains unknown how the verdict of the GFA regarding their decision to discontinue their game at Holy Stars will be.
Second-place Bibiani Gold Stars will host the already relegated Accra Lions at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani. Gold Stars’ 3-2 win at Berekum against Chelsea last weekend helped them remain in contention.
Asante Kotoko will travel to Vision FC knowing very well that defeats from the first and second placed teams, Nations FC and Bibiani Gold Stars, respectively, will only help them to win the title if they beat Vision.
Mathematically, 4th placed Heart of Lions are three points behind the leaders, Nations having punched above their weight throughout the entire season, but have no realistic chance of doing the unthinkable. They will travel to Nations with a head coach determined to end the season on a high note.

Dreams FC, who defeated Accra Lions 2-0 in week 33 to send them to relegation, will host the relegated Legon Cities. The Still Believe’s poor start to the season was overcome by Karim Zito before he left for Asante Kotoko. A win for Dreams can help them finish in the top 6, depending on results elsewhere.
Accra Hearts of Oak will welcome Samartex to the Accra Sports Stadium with Phobia still determined to finish in the top 4, as head coach Aboubakar Ouattara said. The club is just two points behind 4th-placed Heart of Lions, who travelled to title chasers Nations FC. A win for Accra Hearts of Oak will help them achieve an incredible feat of finishing in the top considering their relegation battle last season.
Aduana Stars and Basake Holy Stars’ fixture at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park in Dormaa Ahenkro, alongside Berekum Chelsea’s visit to Tarkwa to face Medeama, are all dead rubbers as they will not have any impact on the title race.
