Nations FC have appointed former Bibiani Gold Stars head coach, Frimpong Manso, as the new gaffer. The Abrankese-based club have been enduring a horrible moment in the new season, having won only two games in the seven played. The club have lost three games and drawn tw,o with the hierarchy showing clearly that they are not happy at all with the results.

Frimpong Manso, 66, led Bibiani Gold Stars to their first-ever Ghana Premier League title in the 2024 -25 season and also won the GHALCA Top 4 for the Bibiani-based club, but was sacked after the club lost 2-0 at home against Algerian side JS Kabylie in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League at the Accra Sport Stadium.

His sacking was shocking, with many pundits across the country describing it as premature and naïve. Frimpong Manso has immense experience in the Ghana Premier League, as it is the main reason why Nations FC immediately chose him to replace Kasim Mingle, who was fired from his role as the head coach right after the 3-2 win over struggling Eleven Wonders, alongside his right lieutenant, Johnson Smith.

Nations FC’s thank you message to Mingle and Smith

“Nations FC have mutually parted ways with both head coach Kassim Ocansey Mingle and assistant coach Johnson Smith.

We thank them for their services to the club. The club will not make any further comment.

End,” the club wrote on their X wall.

Nations FC’s message to the fantastic duo was short and precise, as they have been the main men behind their recent rise.

Many thought the hard-fought victory over the newly promoted side was going to buy at least a few weeks for the under-fire Mingle, but it didn’t work because the club thinks that they have a better squad to perform far better than what is happening currently.

Mingle and Smith’s departure from Nations FC is very sad news, as it ends their marriage after the two veteran coaches led the club to the upper echelon of Ghana football. They challenged for the league title last season until they lost their heads and stopped fighting for the ultimate prize.

Their third season promised to be an incredible one, but suddenly things have turned sour, leading to the divorce.

Frimpong Manso recalls his days at Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex

“What I can say is the English people will tell you it’s coming home. Here is a place I know very well. I am the coach who qualified Kessben FC, now Medeama, for the Ghana Premier League. I am the first coach to play on this pitch, so I understand everything on this pitch.”

Frimpong Manso will be working with Aboagye Dacosta as his assistant coach as they are tasked to help the club challenge for the league title, even though they are eight points behind the leaders Medeama SC, who have won 16 points from possible 21.

Frimpong Manso’s first five games for Nations FC

  1. Bechem United (A)
  2. Hohoe United (H)
  3. Berekum Chelsea (A)
  4. Bibiani Gold Stars (H)
  5. Holy Stars (A)

Nations FC are optimistic Frimpong Manso will take them to the promised land, and a trip to Bechem in his first game will be a real test. Hohoe United, a newly promoted side, will be his first game at home for Nations, and they will be expecting to win all three points. A trip to Chelsea, a visit to his former side, Gold Stars and a game at Holy Stars will complete his first five games.
