Defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars opened their 2025-26 Ghana Premier League season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bechem United.

Frimpong Manso’s side got off to a wonderful start with star striker Samuel Atta Kumi scoring an early brace to put the miners in a commanding lead.

Atta Kumi scored a 4th-minute penalty to give Bibiani Gold Stars a dream start. After successfully piling intense pressure on the visitors, Atta Kumi doubled the home side’s lead.

Surprisingly, Bechem United pulled one back a minute later to make it 2-1.

Gold Stars showed defensive solidity and protected their slim lead to carry the day.

In Berekum, Asante Kotoko won for the first time in 15 years at the home grounds of Berekum Chelsea.

Albert Amoah’s 70th-minute strike made the difference as the Porcupine Warriors made history.

On Friday night at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak failed to beat the 10-man newly promoted side, Hohoe United.

Hearts of Oka’s fans were extremely disappointed after failing to break down the well-organised Hohoe United
