Bibiani Gold Stars defender Vincent Atinga has called for a salary cap in the Ghana Premier League. The veteran defender has played for Ebusua Dwarfs, Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC before signing for Gold Stars. Atinga has played in Albania and Kuwait, gaining enough professional football experience.

The 31-year-old has is known for fighting for the welfare of players in the Ghana Premier League. In an interview with Onua Sports, the defender bemoaned the meagre salaries of players in the league.

“I talk to a lot of players, and you can see salary-wise, things are not good… Can you imagine a Ghana Premier League player taking GH¢1,000? To be honest, it’s very bad because you may have parents, and even the GH¢1000 doesn’t come on time]”.

Players in the Ghana Premier League are not financially sound, with many seeking greener pastures always.

“At least there should be a minimum wage for players, and the authorities can work that out,” he said. Minimum wage should be an issue that the Premier League hierarchy should look forward to considering.

“Some take so small that they depend on us, the seniors, to sort them out in some way”, Atinga concluded. The veteran defender has been helping the young footballers financially due to the league’s failure to reward the players financially.

Vincent Atinga was part of the Bibiani Gold Stars team that just won the Ghana Premier League. The club expects him to offer enough experience in their maiden CAF Champions League in the 2025-26 season.
