The Black Stars have been placed in a group with Panama, England, and Croatia, with the Black Stars expected to fight and progress to the knockout stage of the competition.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the addition of five new members to the Black Stars’ coaching staff in an effort to enhance the team’s technical assistance.
George Afriyie, a former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, has cautioned Ghanaians that the addition of many brains to the team’s technical staff does not ensure quick success.
He advised Ghanaians to lower their expectations for the Black Stars in the World Cup, as he stated during an interview with Asempa FM.
“Ghanaians should temper their expectations for the Black Stars at the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.
Expectations could be high among Ghanaians, seeing some of the stars of the team playing so well in the current season.
Manchester City’s Semenyo and Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku are players who will make you feel that Ghana can do well in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Stars like Mo Kudus, Inaki Williams and Andre Ayew are yet to hit top form in the season, but they can be dangerous on any day to any opponent.
George Afriyie continued, “Having more hands on board doesn’t automatically improve the team’s prospects”.
The new staff members are French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens manager Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who will serve as assistant coaches.
Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso, a Spanish analyst, will concentrate on scouting and match analysis.
Carlos Lozano Romero is returning as the team’s physiotherapist after having previously worked with the squad during the 2022 World Cup.
Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, a performance coach from Ghana who was born in Britain, has joined the updated technical team.
The Black Stars are planned to reconvene in March for international friendly matches against Austria and Germany as they prepare for the World Cup.
Ghana will commence preparations for the tournament in March when they face Austria and Germany in friendly games.
Their group-stage campaign kicks off against Panama on June 17, followed by a match with England on June 23, and concludes against Croatia on June 27.
