The Guinness World Records has awarded Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, a certificate for setting a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Chef Smith made the announcement at a press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel today, Tuesday, July 2.
Chef Smith started his cook-a-thon journey on February 1, 2024. He cooked for 820 hours, ending his marathon on March 6, 2024 even though he initially targeted 1,200 hours.
The inscription on his record certificate sighted by myjoyonline.com reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Speaking at the news conference, Chef Smith said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon”.
Chef Smith made the attempt after another Ghanaian chef, Failatu, who eventually failed.
Although Chef Smith had not received much support from Ghanaians for his attempt due to several factors unlike Chef Failatu and others who attempted various records, those who followed him were convinced that he may rather emerge victorious.
