A recent statement made by Afua Asantewaa, the Guinness World Record Sing-a-Thon contender, has sparked controversy.

Afua Asantewaa claimed that she received nothing from the government except for medicine to cure her sore throat from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

However, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disputed Afua’s claim, labeling her an “ungrateful” being.

According to Salam Mustapha, Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢20,000, packs of papaye food, bottled water, and soft drinks to Afua’s team led by her husband during her first Sing-a-thon attempt.

Salam revealed that he personally handed over the donation to Afua’s husband and father.

Furthermore, Salam claimed that Dr. Bawumia paid for Afua’s vacation at Senchi, which she and her family enjoyed and expressed gratitude for.

Salam expressed his disappointment and shock at Afua’s recent statement, stating, “This lady is not being truthful and quite ungrateful.”

He questioned why Afua would make such a claim, especially after receiving significant support from Dr. Bawumia and the NPP.

Salam Mustapha advised Afua not to repeat the negative narrative, emphasizing that Ghanaians supported her in diverse ways for her to challenge the world and make Ghana proud.

In an earlier interview, Afua Asantewaa had stated that she received nothing from the government except for the medicine from Dr. Bawumia to cure her sore throat.

She claimed that although she was informed that some individuals and organizations had supported her with gifts, most of the gifts presented to her during the contest never actually reached her.

The controversy surrounding Afua’s statement has sparked debate, with some questioning her motives and others defending her actions.
