Fear of being relegated engulfed the Phobia fraternity after the 2-0 defeat in Kumasi against Asante Kotoko. The Phobians were shambolic on that afternoon and deservedly lost.
In Week 32 at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak needed to beat the 4th-placed Nations FC at all costs to minimise the fear in the Phobia family.
Aboubakar Ouattara’s Hearts of Oak got off to a dream start with Ivorian forward Kasim Cisse connecting left-back Denis Korsah’s pinpoint accurate cross to give Hearts of Oak the lead.
Youngster Hamza Issah scored his 13th goal of the season in the 13th minute to put Accra Hearts ofOakk in a comfortable 2-0 lead.
That was the end of the game for Nations FC even though they were the better of the two teams. Accra Hearts of Oak could not afford to slip and hence needed to protect their lead.
In the second half, Nations FC failed to capitalise on the many goal attempts they had to reduce the deficit.
Hearts of Oak defended well and held on to that precious three points. The win has pushed Phobia to 11th with 41 points from 32 games.
Nations FC officially cannot win the league after the defeat as they already trail league leaders Samartex by 7 points with just two games to end the season. They currently sit 4th but could move further down the table after Sunday’s fixtures.
