Albert Avinyoh Wilson is a 36-year-old teacher at Sowutuom in Accra. He says he takes home a Gh¢700 monthly salary.

Despite his paltry salary, he was able to loan out Gh¢105,000 to a Banker who worked at Consolidated Bank, Ghana.

According to Albert, he helped one of his students financially, who appeared troubled anytime she came to school.

The student, he said, told her mother about the assistance he gave her.
The student’s mother, a banker who was also struggling financially, reached out to Albert through her daughter to seek support from him.

The teacher, who had savings of Gh¢ 5,000 meant for his rent, said he withdrew the money and borrowed some from his friends who had taken quick loans and gave it to the banker. It amounted to Ghc 10,000.

The banker, he said, had told him she wanted to invest the money in her import and export business and would pay back with interest within a year.

Albert said the woman further requested Gh¢ 90,000, which he said he did not have.

The teacher said the banker pressed him persistently to find the money for her as she needed it urgently.

To convince him of her commitment to pay back, Albert said the lady gave him a document for a land she claimed she owned at Amasaman.

Though Albert said he did not have that kind of money, he sold a Nissan Centra 2019 model car valued at Ghc 170,000. The vehicle belonged to his girlfriend’s brother living abroad.

Albert told Crime Check TV Gh that the car was entrusted to him because he had once helped the owner.

He said he was convinced by the woman who promised to pay back with interest, out of which he will be able to buy another vehicle later in replacement.

Albert claimed that the woman also promised to get him a job at Consolidated Bank, Ghana, since he holds a first degree in Commerce.

He said he struggled to get a buyer for the car, so the banker provided a buyer who bought the car for Gh¢ 90,000, and gave the money to her.

In total, the banker was to pay over Gh¢200,000, including the interest.
Later, when payment was due as promised by the lady, Albert said she told him her goods had been locked up at the port and therefore could not pay the money as agreed between them.

The teacher also claimed that the banker found ways to manipulate him to reclaim her land documents and then blocked him from reaching her by phone.

According to Albert, when he realised the development, he followed up with the office of the lady at Kaneshie.

He said he was told that the woman had taken a transfer to the bank’s head office.

After narrating his story to the branch manager at Kaneshie, the manager, who did not want to help him initially, changed his mind and revealed where the woman was transferred to.

Albert said he went to the woman’s current office to meet her, but she threatened to get him arrested if he ever stepped there again.

He said that since he was under pressure of facing eviction by his landlord, his friends and his girlfriend’s brother, who was due to visit home, he continued to pester the banker at her office and home.

At one point, he said he even bathed the woman with water near her office. He also went to her house, but the banker had him arrested.

Despite several efforts to get her arrested or evaded futilely, the police turned the case against him.

The teacher told Crime Check TV Gh that his family got involved and met the woman who promised to give him Ghc 5,000 every month. However, she does not go by the agreement.

He said she varies the amount she gives him, sometimes paying less than what was agreed.

So far, he said the woman has paid Ghc 33,000, but she is not showing further commitment to pay off the remainder.

Albert is now found wanting. The owner of the car, he said, has threatened to get him arrested if he does not provide him with his car or make available Ghc 170,000.

The young teacher also faces eviction and is unable to face the wrath of his friends, who took quick loans for him, hoping to receive their money after the deal.
