Many connoisseurs of boxing believe Mike Tyson is the best of all Time in the sport and could be crowned as the greatest athlete ever. The American boxer was blessed with power and stamina during his illustrious career.

He had a shocking start to his career in terms of finance after he revealed that he was virtually not making anything in the early days of his career.

Tyson disclosed in his autobiography Undisputed Truth: “I hardly made any money from those early fights.

“My first fight lost money for the promoter, but Jimmy [Jacobs] gave me $500

“Then he took $50 from that to give to Kevin and he put $350 in the bank for me, so I walked away with $100.”

Iron Mike Tyson made his professional debut in 1985 when he brutally knocked out Hector Mercedes via TKO in the first round. After the bout, his then-promoter, Jimmy Jacobs, only gave him $100 and kept $350 in the bank for him. The fight failed to fill the Plaza Convention Center in Albany, New York, hence leading to financial loss to the promoters.

However, the super Tyson became the youngest-ever Heavyweight world champion at 20 years with a victory over Trevor Berbick in 1986. He earned $1.5m in the victory and went ahead to record 27 straight wins.

Mike Tyson was the king then and made an astonishing $430m from the sport but quickly lost almost all in 2003 after declaring himself bankrupt. Tyson through businesses has become rich again.

His biggest payday in the sport was in 2002 in the famous bought against Lennox Lewis where he earned $35m in Las Vegas. The American’s earnings massively increased when he earned a whooping $30 million [£24 million] for his rematch with Frank Bruno, and two epic clashes with Holyfield.

Tyson retired in 2005 but returned after 19 years in 2024 at age 58 and faced Youtuber turned professional Boxer Jake Paul.
