Kobbie Boateng Mainoo was born and bred in Stockport in England, to Ghanaian parents. The 19-year-old was eligible to represent Ghana, the country of his parents as well as England and subsequently chose to represent the latter.

Speaking ahead of England’s second game of the Euros, the Manchester United midfielder expressed his delight in his Ghanaian heritage but revealed he has dreamed of playing for England always.

“I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage but it was a dream to play for England,” Mainoo said.
“I only wanted to play for England despite being eligible for Ghana.
“It was always a dream to play for England so im happy to be here,” added Mainoo.

Kobbie Mainoo replaced Jude Bellingham in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday night in the 86th minute.

It was his first game for England in a major tournament and he hopes he will make more appearances shortly.
