Italian side Inter Milan was attacked in Italy by the wounded Bayern Munich but could withstand the constant pressure and secured a well-deserved 2-2 draw to qualify.
Vincent Kompany’s side was the far better side in the first half after enjoying 61 per cent possession of Inter Milan’s 39. The Germans needed to score a goal at all costs, but were very wasteful after failing to score from 9 total shots, with three on target. The first half ended goalless, with the second half looking so promising to produce many goals.
Harry Kane in the 52nd minute put the visitors ahead, as it was the goal they needed. Four minutes later, Lautaro Martinez scored after blasting the ball in from a corner to level the scores.
Former Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard outjumped everyone and powerfully headed in Calhanoglu’s corner in the 61st minute to give Inter Milan a 2-1 lead. Eric Dier scored in the 76th minute to restore parity. It was a make-or-break for Bayern Munich to find the lead, but Inter Milan defended and progressed.
Inter Milan will face Barcelona in the semi-finals, and a huge game is expected in both legs.
