Ghana is making significant strides in cricket, showcasing its talent and potential on the continental stage.

The country’s recent performances, particularly at the All-African Games, have earned praise and solidified its position as a key player in the sub-region.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to inspect the Borteyman Sports Complex in preparation for Ghana hosting the 2026 Cricket Regional Tournament.

ICC World Championship Cricket Development Officer for Africa, Justine Ligyalingi, emphasized the importance of broadening cricket’s appeal in Ghana, particularly among women and the under-19 age group.

Ligyalingi advocated for increased participation from schools and grassroots engagement to foster growth in cricket.

He encouraged Ghana to leverage its rich sports culture to popularize the game.

The Minister of Sports and Recreation’s representative, Wilhelmina Asamoah, assured the government is committed to collaborating with cricket authorities to advance the sport’s development.

Asamoah highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a School Sports Authority to nurture talent at the school level.

She called on the cricket federation to submit a comprehensive work plan to facilitate effective cooperation with the Ministry.

The government also stressed the importance of publicity and public education campaigns to ignite community interest and engagement with cricket in Ghana.
