The pivot of Pep Guardiola’s machine has announced that he will leave the club after an eight-year trophy-laden season.

The 33-year-old Belgian midfield maestro has been sensational for the Citizens since signing from German side Wolfsburg in January 2015 with a fee of £54.5 million.

“Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player. Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here and you deserve to hear it from me first,” De Bruyne wrote on social media.

De Bryune’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign and has not been able to renew with the Citizens.

The midfielder is regarded as one of the club’s greatest players and one of the best-ever midfielders in Premier League history after winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and the Champions League.

De Bruyne has played 413 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring 106 goals and providing 174 assists.
