Asante Kotoko is 89 years today! Happy birthday, Fabulous Kumasi Asante Kotoko, may you continue to be great!!!

The Porcupine Warriors can boast of true legends and Malik Jabir is one of the true legends of the ‘Club of the Century’.

“Asante Kotoko was a humongous club during our time, i met legends there. They were so good and so matured,” Malik Jabir said in an interview on AP Sports with the Sports President when he was quizzed on the difference between the old and the new Asante Kotoko.

“They showed us respect even though we were youngsters. We also showed them immense respect. We even washed their boots and jerseys”, Jabir continued.

“I joined Asante Kotoko in 1964-65 Season. Kwao Baffoe, Ben Acheampong, Ben Kusi, Dogo Moro, Mfum, Kwame Nti, Adarkwa, Sammy Steven among many others were the senior players i met there.

“I and Osman Orlando joined Kotoko from Tamale. Getting the opportunity to wear Kotoko’s jersey was the dream for everyone. You needed to sweat to get the chance to wear it.

Per the legend’s words, Asante Kotoko was so great to the extent that legendary players even struggled to get playing time. The level has really changed as things are never the same compared to the 60s and 70s.

Jabir, 79, played for Ghana’s Olympic Team in the 1968 and 72 Olympic Games.

He managed Asante Kotoko in the 2005-06 season. He is among the few people to play and coach Asante Kotoko.
