Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, 33, has announced that he will depart Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign, the 2025/26 season, bringing his four-year stay at Manchester United to a close.
The star midfielder, who joined United from Real Madrid in 2022, has been a pivotal figure in the squad, known for his combative style and leadership on the pitch.
During his time at Old Trafford, Casemiro helped the club secure the 2023 Carabao Cup and the 2024 FA Cup, while also guiding the team to a Europa League final in 2025, where they lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
His performances, particularly in high-stakes matches such as the Manchester Derby, cemented his reputation as one of the club’s most influential players.
In a heartfelt farewell message, Casemiro expressed his deep affection for Manchester United, describing the club as holding “a special place” in his heart.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” Casemiro said.
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.
“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed,” the Brazilian wrote.
Casemiro’s exit marks the end of an era for United, as the team prepares to transition without one of its most experienced midfield anchors.
His decision provides clarity for manager Michael Carrick, who can now plan for the future while ensuring Casemiro’s final months at the club serve as a fitting farewell.
With 146 appearances and 21 goals to his name, Casemiro leaves behind a legacy of resilience, leadership, and silverware, ensuring his place in Manchester United’s modern history.
Casemiro’s potential replacement
Cameroonian box-to-box midfielder Carlos Baleba was a target for the club where Amorim ordered the board to sign him to complement his midfield, but Brighton & Hove resisted the Red Devils charm.
Nottingham Forest’s high-spec English midfielder Elliot Anderson has also been targeted by the club to replace Casemiro.
Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves, whose contract at Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal will expire at the end of the season, is also a potential replacement for Casemiro.
Crystal Palace’s flamboyant midfielder, Adam Wharton, is another midfielder the Red Devils will consider to replace the outgoing Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro
