Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has thrown his full weight behind manager Rúben Amorim, urging fans to be patient as the Portuguese tactician navigates a tough debut season.
Speaking on The Business Podcast, Ratcliffe stressed that Amorim needs “three years” to prove his worth, brushing off calls for a quick managerial change due to recent poor results since the commencement of the new season.
United’s form has been patchy, with the team struggling to find consistency despite a massive squad overhaul.
Over £260 million has been spent, and big names like Garnacho, Antony and Rashford have been shown the exit. Yet, the results haven’t matched the investment.
Ratcliffe admits it’s been rocky, but insists Amorim is “a good guy” with a long-term plan.
Speculation has swirled about the Glazers possibly pushing for Amorim’s exit, but Ratcliffe was blunt: “It’s not going to happen.” He made it clear that INEOS controls football decisions now, and he won’t be swayed by media pressure or fan frustration. Interestingly, he also defended the Glazers, calling them “really nice people” who care about the club.
Ratcliffe’s comments signal a shift in United’s approach—less panic, more patience. He compared Amorim’s journey to that of Sir Alex Ferguson and Mikel Arteta, both of whom faced early struggles before delivering success.
“Football’s not instant,” Ratcliffe said. “It’s like building a Formula One car—you need time and the right parts.”
Amorim’s job is safe for now, but the heat is on. United’s recent 2-0 win over Sunderland offered a breather, but tougher tests lie ahead, including a showdown with Liverpool. Ratcliffe’s backing gives Amorim breathing room, but results must follow.
