Referee Maxwell Hanson has been accused of being the man the Ghana Football Association has been hiding behind to execute their dirty plans and tactics.

President of Young Apostles Anim Addo has revealed that referee Maxwell Hanson is the man GFA uses for their interests. In a seven-paragraph statement, Anim Addo made many revelations that support Accra Lions’ allegation of Hanson.

Samuel Anim Addo on X wrote;

Ghana’s focus the last few weeks has been on the last general elections and the inauguration of a new set of political and governance leaders many consider a new dawn following diverse challenges for years now.

The intensity of the politicking wasn’t enough to set aside the disgraceful conduct of referee Maxwell Hanson who has become the man for the ‘dirty’ jobs in officiating in the Ghana premier league.

I sounded the alarm bells months ago but I was vehemently challenged with every attempt to ‘shush’ me by the leadership of Ghana Football.

We have been suppressing the truth and Accra Lions’ recent complaints following Hanson’s regrettable officiating in their Premier League encounter only highlights a phenomenon I called out the GFA about months ago.

I have been vehement in my calls for referee Maxwell Hanson and his likes, still marauding and compromising the appeal, quality and competitiveness of the Ghana premier league, to be ‘flushed’ out. But, I assume clubs need to experience their handiwork one by one to appreciate my crusade.

I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will ensure foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles. But, I want to sound caution to them, that, it is not the worst they can do to me and my continuous investment and commitment to Ghana football.

Nothing lasts forever!

Anim Addo’s allegation against the Ghana Football Association is very malicious and investigations must be done.

A series of accusations are always made against the FA but nothing is done about it. He has disclosed that he has been warned to not criticize the Ghana Football Association or else his club Young Apostles will face relegation. Sammy Anim Addo is a former Executive Council Member of the GFA and hence knows what exactly happens there.

In October 2023, Samuel Anim Addo lost his seat on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

He was one of the three candidates for re-election as the Division One League (DOL) representative on the GFA EXCO.

But out of the 48 votes cast by the Division One League clubs, 13 were cast for Anim Addo.

Anim Addo’s comments are full of hypocrisy.

Anim Addo’s comments are filled with hypocrisy as he was never heard of making such comments when he was part of the EXCO. Now he is not part and his club is at the top flight so he feels it is time he speaks out.

This is the true definition of hypocrisy. He has been selfish to Ghanaian football and is probably about to pay for it.

He once dinned with Mafias and must face how Mafias suffocate people.

Who is Maxwell Hanson?

Born on 10th September 1982, the 42-year-old Ghanaian has been a referee in the Ghana Premier League since 2016. He made his league debut in the 2014/15 season. His first game was Sekondi Hasaacas’ 1-0 victory over New Edubease in round 3. His second game in that season was Asante Kotoko’s 3-0 defeat against Berekum Chelsea in round 22 of the GPL. Hanson since then has been part of the Ghana Premier League referees.

Last season (2023-24), Hanson officiated 12 GPL matches, he officiated 11 GPL matches in 2022-23. In 2021-22, he officiated 11 games.

In total, Hanson has officiated more than 55 Ghana Premier League leagues. He has brandished 134 yellow cards and 6 red cards.

In the current campaign (2024-25 season), Maxwell Hanson has officiated 7 matches-

Nations 0-0 Bechem United, week 1

Nsoatreman 0-0 Berekum Chelsea, week 3

Heart of Lions 0-0 Vision FC, 0-0 week 6

Dreams FC 0 v 0 Hearts of Oak, week 7

Aduana Stars v Karela United, week 10

Accra Lions 0 v 0 Heart of Lions, week 11

Dreams 1-0 Accra Lions, week 16

RobberyInTuba has trended over the week due to Accra Lions’ accusations of Hanson robbing them against Dreams FC. Clubs have been accusing so many referees in the Ghan Premier League of deliberately cheating them. Maxwell Hanson seems to be mostly in the news but the stats show that he has not done anything wrong against Young Apostles.

In fact, it is these same clubs that have planned to give Kurt Okraku a helping hand in his bid to enjoy an abominable third term. Poor officiating in Ghana Football has been a huge problem after clubs have complained bitterly about the performances of almost all the referees.

Maxwell Hanson must start to prove everyone wrong or risk fading out of the system. With decade-long experience in officiating, a lot is expected from Hanson and the time is now for him to redeem his image.

Everything points to the fact that Ghana Premier League owners and fans do not like his work.
