Mikel Arteta has expressed his delight after Viktor Gyokeres ended his goal drought with a brace against Atletico Madrid, saying he hopes it marks the beginning of a “beautiful run” for the Swedish striker.

Arsenal cruised to a 4-0 victory in their Champions League clash at the Emirates, with Gyokeres scoring twice in quick succession to cap off a dominant performance.

The goals were his first in nine matches for club and country, breaking a frustrating spell that had seen the forward struggle to find the net.

Arteta praised Gyokeres’ resilience and work ethic, noting that the striker never stopped believing in himself despite the dry spell.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said, “I hope this is the start of a beautiful run for Viktor.

“He’s worked incredibly hard and deserved this moment. The goals will give him confidence, and we know what he’s capable of when he’s firing.”

The manager also highlighted Gyokeres’ contribution beyond scoring, pointing to his pressing, link-up play, and ability to stretch defences as key attributes that elevate Arsenal’s attacking threat.

With Arsenal maintaining their perfect start to the Champions League campaign, Arteta is optimistic that Gyokeres’ resurgence will add momentum to the team’s ambitions.

The Swede’s performance has sparked excitement among fans, who are eager to see him build on this breakthrough.

As the Gunners prepare for upcoming domestic and European fixtures, all eyes will be on Gyokeres to see if this brace truly signals the beginning of a prolific chapter in his Arsenal journey.

The brace made it five goals in all competitions for the striker for the Gunners since his mega move from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
