Egyptian King Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year.

Salah’s win was a record as he won 90% of the votes cast, which is the biggest margin of the century.

The Liverpool forward won his third of the prestigious award, having already lifted it in 2018 and 2022. He equals Thierry Henry’s record as the second only player to have won the award three times since Stanley Matthews won it in 1948

Salah, 32, has played a huge part in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign and has enjoyed another unforgettable individual season.

The Egyptian king, who has just signed a new contract to stay at Liverpool for at least another two years, has scored 33 goals across all competitions which including 28 and 18 assists in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s title charge was led by the Egyptian as they equalled Manchester United’s record 20 EPL titles.

The winner is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Football Writers’ Association (FWA), which comprises around 400 football journalists based throughout England.
