On Saturday at the Stade Louis II stadium in Monaco, Lyon won 3-1 at AS Monaco with Pavel Sulc scoring twice for the visitors. The 25-year-old Czech Republic forward stole the attention.

Monaco’s disappointment on the night got worse soon after the game, when the Ghanaian centre back who partnered German defender Thilo Kehrer at the heart of Monaco’s defence was confirmed to have sustained an injury.

Monaco’s official statement about Salisu

At the very end of the match against Olympique Lyonnais, our central defender, Mohammed Salisu, was injured in his left knee.

Medical examinations revealed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.

The Club will support Mohammed throughout his recovery and offer him all its support.

Courage Sali, we’re with you

How long does it take ACL injuries to heal?

According to doctors, it takes six to nine months for full healing after surgery, with some returning to sports in 9-12 months when one sustains an ACL injury.

What’s next for Monaco and Ghana?

It has not been confirmed as to the number of months the Ghanaian will sit out, but his absence will definitely affect both Monaco and Ghana.

Salisu is the number one choice centre back for the French side due to his leadership qualities. In Ghana, Slisu and Djiku are Otto Addo’s preferred partnership, so if he doesn’t recover at the right time for the 2026 World Cup, it will be a big blow for the Black Stars.
