“SAINT LUCIA TO THE WORLD,
St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred storms to the Olympic 100m gold medal with 10.72”

“That’s the first medal in the history of the Olympic Games for her country,” World Athletics wrote on X.

Julien Alfred never gave any attention to the cheers from the crowd when her name and country were mentioned in the semi-finals Heat.

It says how focused she was tonight in the women’s 100m. Her focus paid off as she was never considered the favorite but defied all the odds and surprised everyone.

Alfred beat Richardson in semi-final Heat 2 by winning. It was a clear message to her competitors especially when the 37-year-old sprint goddess Fraser-Pryce withdrew from the semi-finals.

Her withdrawal meant there would be no Thompson or Fraser-Pryce in the finals of the Olympic Games 100m final since 2008.

Julien Alfred finished first by winning gold with a National Record of 10.72. It is St Lucia’s first ever medal at the Olympic Games.

American duo Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson won Silver and Bronze medals.

Britain’s Daryl Neita and USA’s Twanisha Terry finished 4th and 5th respectively.

Mujinga Kambudji of Switzerland, Jamaica’s Tia Clayton and Ivory Coast’s Ta Lou-Smith finished 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
