Morocco became the 4th different African team to reach Olympics semi-final after smashing the USA 4-0.

Ghana was the first in Barcelona 1992 to reach semi-finals.

Nigeria followed it in Atlanta 1996 by even lifting Gold. In 2008 and 2016, Nigeria also made it to the semi-finals.

Cameroon equaled Nigeria’s incredible record in Sydney 2000 when they won gold in men’s football.

It has taken the continent a whopping 24 years for any side to make it to the semi-finals of the Olympic Games.

At the Parc des Princes in Paris, it was an afternoon that Morocco will never forget. USA was in full confidence after putting behind their 3-0 massacre by France in their opening group game to thrash New Zealand and Guinea 4-1 and 3-0 repectively to qualify for the knockout phase.

The Americans have played a sumptuos football in France but met a side that was four steps ahead.

Star striker Rahimi scored his 5th goal of the competition after putting the North Africans ahead via a spot kick in the 29th minute.

The second half was so easy for Morocco as they scored three with USA failing to stop their opponents’ good display.

Akhomach, Hakimi and
Mauohub each scored in the second half to record an impressive win for Morocco over USA. The 4-0 thrashing will build the confidence of Morocco ahead of their fight for Gold in men’s football.

Morocco will face Spain in the semi-finals. A brace from Fermin Lopez and a goal from Abel Ruiz helped Spain smashed Japan.
