The Chipolopolos of Zambia were so flat in the first half that many thought they were going to be thrashed by Mali.

The Eagles of Mali at the Stade Mohamed V started on a front foot with playmakers Sinayoko, Nene and Dieng making life difficult for the Zambians.

With just five minutes played, Dorgeles Nene’s effortwent wide of the right post. Benson Sakala blocked Sinayoko’s from any effort when he had an opportunity to damage Zambia.

Nene won a penalty for Mali in the 42nd minute, but Bilal Toure’s effort was saved by Mwanza.

Mali took the lead through Lassina Sinayoko in the 60th minute when he fired home from close range to hand Mali a 1-0 lead.

Zambia was so poor in attack to the extent that they had their first shot in the game in the 73rd minute, while Mali had already had 14.

Patson Daka’s header from Banda’s cross in the 92nd minute equalised for Zambia to break the Malians ‘ hearts.
