In a letter dated March 25, 2026, Kwabena Brefo, who also goes by Jones Kennedy Brefo, formally announced that he had assumed office as acting head of the family.
His appointment follows the customary removal of the former Abusuapanin, Victor Kofi Owusu Boahen, on March 11, 2026.
Brefo’s assumption of authority places him at the centre of all legal and administrative matters concerning the family, including ongoing litigation that has drawn widespread public attention.
Order To Discontinue Key Court Case
A central element of Brefo’s directive is the immediate withdrawal of a pending injunction case before the Accra High Court, referenced as Suit No. GJ/0437/2026.
The case—filed under the authority of the former family head and titled “Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu versus Akosua Serwaa Fosuh and three others”—sought to block the organisation of a “Celebration of Life” event in honour of Daddy Lumba.
According to Brefo, the family has collectively determined that the suit no longer reflects their interests. He therefore instructed lawyers from Baba Jamal & Associates to take immediate steps to discontinue the case by close of business on March 26, 2026.
Demand For Case Inventory And Legal Accounts
Beyond withdrawing the case, the acting family head also requested a comprehensive inventory of all legal matters initiated under the previous leadership. This move is aimed at consolidating control over the family’s legal affairs and reassessing their direction.
He further asked for details of any outstanding legal fees owed to the firm, signalling an effort to bring financial clarity and administrative order to the family’s engagements.
All future correspondence, he indicated, should be channelled through his legal representative, Bright Obeng of Hayfron-Benjamin & Co in Kumasi.
