Renowned Ghanaian musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has called for the integration of more home-based players into the Black Stars, citing their importance in reviving the national team’s fortunes.

Stonebwoy’s remarks follow the Black Stars’ disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Ghana finished bottom of Group F without a single win. Angola and Sudan advanced, leaving Ghana grappling with its worst qualification campaign in recent history.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the award-winning dancehall artist stressed the need to focus on grassroots development by incorporating local talent.

“It is very important to have local players as part of the building of the national team,” he stated. “We have to build a system where we can grow our own.

If we cannot fish into the Black Stars from the Ghana Premier League, then what is the use of the Ghana Premier League?”

Stonebwoy acknowledged recent efforts to include home-based players, with five receiving call-ups for the AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

He sees this as a step in the right direction but emphasizes the need for a consistent approach to integrating local players into the squad.

His comments resonate with ongoing discussions about how to revitalize Ghanaian football, highlighting the potential of the Ghana Premier League as a breeding ground for future Black Stars stars.
