Thomas Partey has played 51 times in the current campaign for Arsenal. It is probably his best season since he secured a bumper deal from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020. Arsenal paid a whopping 50M euros for his signature, and the price shows the confidence the club had in him when they decided to snatch him from Spain.
Thomas Partey’s contract is set to expire, but the two parties are yet to reach an agreement on a new one, even though they have hinted at an agreement for renewal.
Ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Southampton on the last day of the season, Mikel Arteta, the manager of the club, told the press that he needed Partey to stay when he was quizzed whether he needed him or not.
“Yeah”, Artate answered. “In regards to Thomas, consistency-wise, it’s been his best season. I think the way he’s played, performed, his availability has been exceptional, and he’s an important player for us.”
“If you want to win major trophies, you have to be the best in the market, no?” he said. “The teams that win have the best players–always, always–at this level.”
Thomas Partey has been drawing interest from top European clubs including Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, per multiple sources. Also, clubs from the Saudi PRO League have been showing interest in the 31-year-old Ghanaian midfielder.
