Ghana defines the adage “a square peg in a round hole” with proper examples in all the sectors of life. It has become so normal that a doctor will be appointed to lead education, an engineer will be appointed to lead the health department, and a nutritionist will be given the role of supervising all construction works across the length and breadth of the nation.
This attitude has played a key role in the destruction of the nation. It has become a very normal practice that unqualified people will be assigned to manage a sector they have zero ideas and experience.
In our football, people who have very limited ideas are always assigned to play crucial roles. At the various venues of the country, many unqualified people are allowed to play the role of security which has been leading to fans taking laws into their own hands.
Former Ghana defender Anthony Baffoe has lamented that practice and has called for an end to that to ensure the safety of everyone in the various stadiums.
“It’s important to get experts [for our various stadia]. A carpenter or painter cannot be a groundskeeper. This is what we have to know, but sometimes we have the wrong people in the right positions. This has to change. We have to have experts in various positions,” Tony Baffoe told Joy Sports.
Ghana Premier League have struggled to fight hooliganism over the years mainly because the people employed have no ideas about security issues.
Experts ought to be appointed to manage the affairs of various venues to put proper measures in place.
