The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a woman and her son in relation to the suspected murder of a 36-year-old land agent and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old son in Nsawam-Aduakrom. The individuals, named Abigail Cheetham, 34, and her son Prince, have been placed in police custody while investigations continue. Police sources report that the event took place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the residence of the family in Nsawam-Aduakrom.

The individuals who passed away were identified as Nicholas Cheetham, a land agent, and his 15-year-old stepson, Richmond. Initial investigations suggest that a conflict occurred after the suspect reportedly found out that her husband had fathered a child with someone else. Law enforcement officials reported that the issue was resolved when Nicholas requested forgiveness and provided compensation to Abigail, who asked for a piece of land and a significant sum of money. Abigail was secretly planning to kill Nicholas.

Police Report

“On Saturday, March 7, 2026, around 4 pm, Nicholas handed GH¢30,000 to his wife to keep safe till the next morning. Abigail informed Prince about her plan and told him about the money. Prince called a friend to help them kill his step-father. His friend demanded GH¢8,000 for his involvement, which Abigail paid right out of the money Nicholas told her to keep,” according to reports.

That night around 12:30 a.m., Abigail is said to have had intercourse with Nicholas so he would sleep deeply. Then, she reportedly called Prince and his friend into the bedroom, and they allegedly helped kill Nicholas.

While the incident was happening, Nicholas’s 15-year-old son, Richmond, is reported to have heard a noise and peeked through the window where he saw the assailants putting his father’s body into a rubber bag for disposal.

Reports say while they walked out to dump the body, they realised Richmond had seen them. “After disposing of Nicholas’s body, they went after Richmond, broke his neck and hit his head with a cement block till he passed out”.

Believing that Richmond was dead, they left him a short distance from the compound to retrieve a plastic bag for transporting and disposing of the body. Richmond regained consciousness, ran to the neighbour’s house with blood coming from his head, and explained what had happened. The police were reportedly notified about the incident by the neighbours, which resulted in the arrest of Abigail and Prince.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has verified the arrests. A report was received early Sunday morning, and we responded quickly. Two suspects are in custody, and efforts are being made to locate the third suspect. The command stated that the survivor is undergoing medical treatment. Authorities report that investigations are continuing to determine the complete details and reasons behind the situation.
