The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused huge damage to Africa, as the European Union has revealed that over 1,780 Africans from 36 countries have been recruited to fight for Moscow.

55 Ghanaians have been killed, allegedly, as 272 are believed to have taken part. Two Ghanaians are in a Ukrainian prison after being captured while fighting for Russia.

The two countries have been killing each other for four years, and the European Union has been expressing massive concern over it and revealing its impact on other countries, especially those in Africa.

The vice president of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, has strongly warned Ghanaians not to engage in wars that the country is not part of. When speaking at the signing of a security and defence partnership between the European Union and Ghana on Tuesday, the Estonian politician said, “Russia’s war is a threat to Europe and also has consequences beyond its borders, including in Ghana.

“Beyond Russia’s unethical recruitment of African nationals, it places economic hardship on citizens,” she continued.

“Your people should not be lured into a war that is not theirs,” Kallas said.

Many young Africans have been deceived by Russia as they have been forced to fight in their favour without their consent.

Moscow was recently ordered by President Putin to stop recruiting Africans to represent Russia in the war against Ukraine.
