Somalia assistant coach Andre Joao Castro has questioned Ghana’s current coaching situation ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash, describing the Black Stars as disorganised while insisting his side are ready for the challenge.
Castro’s comments add another layer of tension to the upcoming encounter, with Ghana facing pressure to steady their campaign after a difficult start.
“At the moment, Ghana has no potential coach. The team is disorganised, but we are fully prepared to battle them,” Castro said, according to GSP1.
Despite acknowledging Ghana’s stature in African football, the Somalia assistant coach made it clear that his side are approaching the match with a strong sense of urgency.
“We respect Ghana, but the game is a must-win for us after failing to pick up a point in our last two matches. Ghanaians will enjoy good football from us,” he added.
For Somalia, the fixture presents an opportunity to respond after two consecutive matches without a point. Castro believes his team can produce an encouraging performance as they look to get their qualifying campaign back on track.
Ghana, meanwhile, are dealing with uncertainty on the touchline following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, with the Black Stars yet to appoint a new head coach.
The team’s defeats to Ivory Coast and Gambia, 2-0 and 4-2 respectively, have intensified scrutiny of their recent performances and raised questions about the direction of the national side.
The absence of a confirmed head coach adds another challenge as preparations continue for the next stage of qualifying. Ghana will be keen to regain stability, improve their performances and meet the expectations of supporters.
Although Castro’s remarks are likely to attract attention in Ghana, the outcome of the contest will ultimately depend on what happens on the pitch.
Somalia will be looking to turn their urgency into a result, while Ghana will have an opportunity to respond to the criticism and demonstrate greater cohesion.
With both teams under pressure for different reasons, the encounter promises to be an important test of their ambitions in the race to qualify for the 2027 AFCON finals.
