Mikel Obi went mad at Jamie Carragher on his usual Obi Podcast after the SkySports broadcaster referred to the Africa Cup of Nations as not a major tournament.
“It’s so disrespectful what he (Carragher) said, and this is coming from somebody who won no international competition with England’, Obi said. Jamie Crragher played 38 times in a eleven year stint with the English national team and won nothing so he doesn’t know how it feels to lift an international trophy.
“That smirk on his face… Somebody who never won anything with England never won the Premier League…You can’t discredit such a wonderful tournament. People die in Africa for the African Cup of Nations.”
“He can f*ck off… His statement is so bad. The AFCON is as big. It’s not in his f*cking place to discredit the African Cup of Nations. He (Carragher) needs to shut his f*cking mouth before he criticises Africa and what we stand for. His statement is bigger than football.
“Who the f*ck are you to speak? If you won the Euros with England, I might understand that. You’re trying to discredit the tournament that I won? Do you know what it means to win that tournament? The tears in my mother’s and father’s eyes” when I won it.”
Mikel Obi, the former Chelsea midfielder enjoyed a great career after wining the UEFA Champions League and multiple Premeir League titles with Chelsea. He also won the coveted AFCON title for Nigeria in 2013 when the Super Eagles beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in South Africa.
Former English stars Rio Ferdinand, Ian Wright, Daniel Sturridge and Micah Richards have all disagreed with Carragher’s horrible commnets about AFCON.
