As May Day marks the beginning of summer in Europe, it is a statutory holiday in Ghana, celebrated to praise the efforts of workers in the country. It is called International Workers’ Day, globally.
Ghana’s president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, via his Facebook page, praised Ghanaian workers’ efforts in the development of the nation.
“Engine of our economy, the builders of our infrastructure, and the innovators who propel us forward,” the president wrote.
“This year’s May Day celebration under the theme ‘Striving for peace and stability to drive industrialisation, trade, and decent work for social justice’ reflects a critical truth,” he continued.
“My government recognizes and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda. My administration is focused on creating an enabling environment for workers to thrive and help “Reset Ghana.”
The president assured Ghanaians of his administration’s plans to create an environment that will help workers succeed and achieve the goals of the country.
“Only yesterday, the National Youth Authority launched the National Apprenticeship Programme, closely following the introduction of the Adwumawura and One Million Coders programmes,” John Mahama revealed.
Adwumawura has been launched to create at least 10,000 sustainable businesses annually to generate 40,000+ jobs in the next four years. They aim to empower the Ghanaian youth via entrepreneurship.
“Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana, where every citizen can contribute their talents and skills to national development,” #ResettingGhana #LetsBuildGhanaTogether.
The president is keen on resetting Ghana as he ended his message with the resettingGhana hashtag.
He urged Ghanaian workers to work together to create an equitable Ghana where all citizens are expected to play a key role in the development of the nation.
