Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has revealed that he has written songs for other musicians without receiving proper compensation.
In a recent interview on 3FM, the “Belinda” hitmaker lamented instances where he assumed recognition would come naturally, only to be sidelined once the songs gained popularity.
Frustrations
Kuami Eugene expressed frustration over the lack of credit and compensation he received for his songwriting contributions.
He stated that some artists he worked with failed to give him his due cut, despite his significant contributions to their songs.
“Some songs that I wrote that we thought, you know what, they’ll do the needful later and it was in my face afterwards,” he said.
Legal Action
The musician emphasized that he has since decided to address the matter by taking legal action against artists who fail to do the right thing.
He specifically mentioned Mr. Drew as one of the artists he has taken legal action against.
“Some of them, I took them on. Like Mr. Drew, I took him on and some of them, I figured, you know, just let it go,” he stated.
Appreciation for New Generation of Artistes
Despite his frustrations, Kuami Eugene expressed optimism about the new crop of artists who appreciate the music business ethics and professionalism.
“So, I love the fact that this new generation of, I mean, new artists understand this thing to the brim,” he added.
