The Ghana Police Service has announced that two individuals suspected of armed robbery were shot and killed during a confrontation with officers while conducting an anti-robbery operation on the Atebubu highway in the Bono East Region.
Police reports indicate that the incident took place on July 30, 2025, when a patrol team responded to a robbery occurring against motorists on the highway.
When the officers arrived, they encountered gunfire from the suspects, which led them to return fire.
Two of the robbers suffered severe gunshot injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival.
The other suspects ran away from the location and hid in the nearby bushes. A later search of the area resulted in the discovery of a locally made shotgun that was loaded with two live cartridges, along with four spent cartridges and a machete.
This evidence confirmed that the group was armed. On August 2, the Ghana Police Service announced on Facebook that they are conducting a thorough search to locate and apprehend the suspects who are on the run.
The service confirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety of commuters and upholding public safety on major roads and highways.
