The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Mr Zakaria Abdulai, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region, pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving students at the school.

In a statement dated 13 October 2026, GES said the action follows an alleged incident that reportedly triggered a student rampage. The unrest led to the destruction of school property and other items, and the school was temporarily closed.

According to the GES, Mr Abdulai has been directed to proceed on interdiction with immediate effect and to make himself available to assist with the investigation. He has also been told to hand over management of the school to the Regional Director of Education.

The statement added that a complaint has been lodged with the Police.

Management of the GES assured the public that it will safeguard the safety of students and staff and uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.

The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations of the GES.

An interdiction is an administrative step taken while an investigation is under way. It is not a finding of guilt, and the allegations against Mr Abdulai have not been proven.
