On AP Media Sports, Asante Kotoko National Circles Chairman, Alex Manu disclosed how some of the players formed a cartel to disrupt the 2023/24 season.
In an interview with Joseph Osei Bonsu, the NCC Chairman shockingly said, “A cartel was formed in the team”.
“Against Nsoatreman, one of their players told me Kotoko’s players were fighting on the pitch”, said the chairman.
Nsoatreman defeated Asante Kotoko 2-1 on 11th April 2024 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Round 25 of the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League. Kotoko was on a seven game winless run and things were looking poorly for the Porcupine Warriors. Fans were dissatisfied with the clubs performance on that day.
“I was slapped twice because the fans wanted to beat the players when we were not doing well.
“I was among those who were protecting the boys when they were chased by some angry fans”. Alex Manu added.
The Porcupine Warriors wanted the season to end early to avoid further embarrasment when the performance was abysmal.
When quizzed on what the club has learned from what transpired last season, Alex Manu said, ” We have learned a lot from what happened last season”.
“If any player goes contrary to the ethics of the club, we will terminate his contract,” Alex Manu said.
It is one of the measures the club will employ to curb indiscipline which has been the main issue that has bedevilled the club for a long time.
Many Asante Kotoko players recently have been seen by fans clubing around midnight at the big night clubs in Kumasi. This is a habit that supporters have complained bitterly about and chairman has assured the fans that they will punish any player who will be seen at night clubs.
