Kobbie Mainoo was given his first-ever start for the Three Lions of England on Wednesday at the iconic Wembley Stadium in the 2-2 draw against the Red Devils of Belgium in an international friendly game.

The 18-year-old Stockport-born was voted for as the Man of the Match after putting up another performance that got the Wembley crowd applauding him.

Kobbie Boateng Mainoo, born to Ghanaian parents, was praised by pundits and his teammates after the game.

“At 18, I was probably playing on the Xbox and he is out there being a man and playing for England. He just glides with the ball and I’m sure there’s more to come from him and he will go right to the top,” England striker Ivan Toney when speaking to Channel 4 about Kobbie Mainoo.

Kobbie Mainoo enjoyed 73 minutes of football and was replaced by James Maddison. It is believed that Gareth Southgate, the head coach of England will name Kobbie Mainoo among his 23-man squad for Euro 2024 to be played in Germany in June and July 2024.

Ghana’s chances of getting Kobbie Mainoo, the Manchester United talent midfielder, to play for the Black Stars are almost dead.
