The Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC, Adjetey Isaac Noi, is facing trial at the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH₵1 million from the bank. The 28-year-old has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Noi reactivated a customer’s dormant account without the owner’s permission and used it to move the money out of the bank.
They allege the funds were sent to several accounts at other financial institutions. The alleged transactions took place between March and September 2025 and came to light during an audit of the Oyibi branch.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court the matter was uncovered after ARB Apex Bank PLC received information about suspected fraudulent transactions at the branch. On September 28, 2026, the bank’s Head of Audit and Inspection led a team of auditors to the branch to investigate.
According to the prosecution, the auditors found that GH₵1 million had been moved from an internal bank account into another account held at the same bank.
That receiving account had been dormant, and the prosecution says Noi reactivated it without the knowledge or approval of its holder. Once the money was in the account, it was allegedly transferred on to accounts at different institutions.
The auditors reported the transaction to ARB Apex Bank’s head office, and management then directed that a formal complaint be lodged with the police.
Noi was arrested and questioned over the transaction. Prosecutors told the court he could not offer investigators a satisfactory explanation for how the GH₵1 million was moved.
His lawyer asked the court to grant him bail, arguing that he was not a flight risk and has strong ties to Ghana. Counsel said Noi lives at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region and would be available whenever the court required him.
The court, presided over by Angela Attachie, granted bail of GH₵1 million with two sureties, who must justify the bail with landed property.
The case is still before the court, and the allegations against Noi have not been proven.
