Renowned Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, D-Cryme, has been elected as the new Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President of Methodist University Ghana (MUG), in a historic victory that bridges the worlds of showbiz and academia.
Known in real life as Darlington Kwasi Agyekum, D-Cryme announced his candidacy on April 7, 2025, surprising many with his bold decision to transition from entertainment into student leadership.
His campaign quickly gained traction among students, who were drawn to his vibrant personality, leadership vision, and track record of contributing to student life on campus.
He joins the likes of Samini and Guru who were elected SRC president for GIMPA and the University of Ghana respectively.
In his victory message shared on Instagram, D-Cryme expressed gratitude to his supporters, writing: “This win is for us, by us. God bless you. God make MUG great.”
His campaign was anchored on ten strategic pillars, which included transparency and accountability, enhanced academic support, improved access to resources, and the introduction of financial aid and scholarship schemes.
D-Cryme’s approach to leadership emphasized service, support, and student empowerment.
Throughout his campaign, he underscored his commitment to inclusivity and innovation, framing Methodist University as a space where every student’s voice matters.
“I’ve always believed in giving back. From initiating the Wall of Fame to honour dedicated lecturers, to the Digital Screen Project that improved campus communication, my mission has always been about inclusivity, innovation, and impact,” he said in a campaign speech.
D-Cryme’s win is being celebrated widely as a testament to the belief that it is never too late to chase one’s dreams or serve one’s community.
His success also highlights a growing trend of public figures pursuing formal education and active involvement in student governance.
His election as SRC President marks a new chapter for Methodist University Ghana, as the institution now looks ahead to a student leadership term likely to be characterized by creativity, forward-thinking policies, and celebrity influence.
The new president is expected to assume office with immediate effect as the academic community anticipates the roll-out of his campaign promises.
