Yesterday

Switzerland superbly defeated Hungary in Cologne 3-1 to start their Euro 24 journey on a good note. Kwadwo Duah and Aebischer’s goals in the first half put Swiss in a commanding 2-0 lead. Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross was headed in by Barnabás Varga to reduce the deficit in the second half. Breel Embolo rounded off the afternoon in a grand manner to make the score 3-1 in favour of Switzerland.

Spain in Berlin at the Olympiastadion brushed aside Croatia. An incredible first-half performance saw Morata, Ruiz and Carvajal each score to put Croatia in trouble. No goal was scored in the second half as Spain won 3-0 against Croatia.

Albania scored in the first 23 seconds of the game against Italy. The historic goal scored by Nedim Bajrami was cancelled by Bastoni with Barella scoring the winner in the 16th minute for Italy. The Azzurri won 2-1 to start their title defence.

 

Today

Poland without Lewandowski will play against the Netherlands at 1 pm. Ronald Koeman returns to the country he lifted Euro 88 which is the only trophy won by the Dutch. The former skipper for Holland hopes his men will step up on Monday to lay the foundation for the subsequent games. Skipper Virgil Van Dijk is eager to end the Dutch’s trophy drought.

Slovenia will play against their bogey side Denmark. They have met 6 times and the Danes have won 5 with Slovenia recording just a draw. Benjamin Sesko and Jan Oblak are two players that Slovenia will expect to make a difference. Christian Eriksen returns to Euro competition after collapsing during the 2020 Euro Championship when Denmark squared off against Finland. It will be an emotional afternoon for the Manchester United midfielder. Youngster Erasmus Højlund will have the opportunity to show the world his talent at the international level.

England will play against Serbia in the evening. The three Lions are heavily fancied to win their first-ever Euros after making it tobthe finals in the last one. With incredible playmakers; Foden, Bellingham and Saka behind Kane, Serbia have a difficult job to do. Serbia has Mitrovic and Vlahovic in attack supported by the evergreen Tadic. Filip Kostic and Sergei Milinkovic Savic are incredible playmakers who have what it takes to dazzle on big stages.
